X-Men '97!

A POA SPECIAL EDITION With Cari Kabinoff!

Welcome to a SPECIAL EDITION of the Piece of Advice Newsletter!

Good Morning! Today we are celebrating the release of “X-Men ’97” Season 2! I was even lucky enough to ask a couple of questions to actress Cari Kabinoff that voiced “Deathbird” in the first season!

When “X-Men ’97” debuted on Disney+ in March 2024, it accomplished something few revivals ever do: it recaptured the magic of a beloved classic while forging its own identity. Picking up where “X-Men: The Animated Series” left off in 1997, the show reunited audiences with Marvel’s iconic team of mutants and proved that their stories still resonate decades later. For longtime fans, it felt like returning to an old friend; for newcomers, it was an exciting introduction to the world of the X-Men.

The series was inspired by both the original animated show and the rich history of the X-Men comics. Led by head writer Beau DeMayo and produced by Marvel Animation, the creative team worked to preserve the look, heart, and themes that made the 1990s series so memorable. Several original voice actors returned, helping bridge the gap between generations, while modern animation techniques brought new energy to the action and storytelling.

Critics and audiences embraced the revival almost immediately. Praised for its emotional depth, compelling character arcs, and ambitious storytelling, “X-Men ’97” quickly became one of Marvel’s most acclaimed recent television projects. Reviewers celebrated its ability to balance nostalgia with meaningful character development, while fans appreciated the respect shown to the original series and its legacy.

One of the show’s most fascinating qualities is that it was conceived as a true continuation rather than a remake. The story begins shortly after Professor Xavier’s departure, exploring how the X-Men navigate a changing world without their longtime leader. By blending classic characters, powerful themes, and fresh storytelling, “X-Men ’97” demonstrated why the X-Men have remained enduring symbols of hope, acceptance, and resilience for generations.

Bonus Question:

Giancarlo: What was it like working on “X-Men ‘97”?

Cari: Working on “X-Men 97” was such an incredible experience. To be a part of the creative process and breathe life into the character that’s part of a franchise that is so revered, feels (felt) really special.

It is amazing to see (and be a part of) the process of going from page to screen and see how excited and loved the show is; it makes me feel really grateful and honored to be a small part of all that magic.

Piece Of Advice:

Giancarlo: What is this best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Cari: Best advice I’ve received: Be present. Be grateful. There’s so much more that exists in really being present in the moment. If we get swamped with the past or too distracted with our future, we miss opportunities that are available by just being present.

Thank you for reading! Have an amazing day and we will catch you again soon!
