Bonus Questions:
Giancarlo: What was the inspiration for creating Ducktown Weekly?
Erik Durbin: The inspiration for Ducktown Weekly really came from my mother. Like me, she has always been a fan of comic strips and crossword puzzles. But in her town, the local paper stopped producing a print edition every day, basically turning into an online newspaper. Reading the comics online can be good, but it's not really the same as getting them in print. When she was visiting us in Washington, DC, my mom joked that she would need to have the Washington Post shipped to her so that she could read the comics again. That sort of gave me the idea of essentially providing people with the comics pages through the mail. It turns out no one else was doing that, so we decided to try it ourselves.
Giancarlo: What is the best feedback you’ve gotten about it so far?
Erik Durbin: We've heard from a number of folks who miss reading things in print. But my favorite feedback is probably from people who simply say how happy they are to have something to make them smile. The news may be a source of aggravation for a lot of folks, but the comic pages have always been a break from that.
Piece Of Advice:
Giancarlo: What is this best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Erik Durbin: The most important advice for me in getting The Ducktown Weekly off the ground was not to over-think things, but to just move forward and adjust as necessary. Someone told me that you can't move forward by thinking, you can only move forward by taking action. It's been important for me to keep that in mind since I'm someone who's inclined to second-guess myself a lot.
Thank you for reading! Have an amazing day and we will catch you again on Monday!
