Welcome to the Piece of Advice Newsletter!

Good morning! Today we have a really cool dive into TV legend, Meredith Vieira!

Meredith Vieira has been a warm, intelligent, and familiar face on American television for decades. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she began her career in journalism in the 1970s, quickly rising through the ranks with her sharp reporting and genuine on-air presence. Vieira’s early work with CBS News and later “60 Minutes” earned her credibility as a serious journalist, but she also had a natural ability to connect with people, which set her apart in a competitive field.

Many know her best from her time as a co-anchor on NBC’s “Today” show and as the original moderator of ABC’s “The View”. She brought warmth, humor, and thoughtful insight to every conversation, whether she was interviewing world leaders or sharing stories from everyday life. But Vieira also showed her versatility by stepping into game show territory, becoming a beloved host of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” for over a decade. Her genuine enthusiasm and empathy made contestants feel comfortable; even when the stakes were high.

Throughout her career, Vieira has remained grounded and relatable, openly discussing her family life and advocating for issues close to her heart, like multiple sclerosis awareness (her husband, journalist Richard Cohen, lives with MS). Whether delivering breaking news or sharing a laugh on morning television, Meredith Vieira has built a legacy of professionalism, kindness, and connection that continues to inspire viewers and journalists alike.
