A POA SPECIAL EDITION With Jeff Deaver!
Welcome to a SPECIAL EDITION of the Piece of Advice Newsletter!
Good morning! Today we are looking into thriller author, Jeffery Deaver! I was even lucky enough to ask him a few questions!

Jeffery Deaver has built a career as one of the most inventive and prolific thriller writers of his generation. Known for his mastery of intricate plotting and clever twists, he has written dozens of novels that span suspense, crime, and mystery. His best-known works include the Lincoln Rhyme series, beginning with “The Bone Collector” (1997), which introduced the brilliant but physically paralyzed forensic detective. The novel not only became an international bestseller but also set the stage for Deaver’s reputation as a writer who can combine deep character work with gripping, puzzle-like storytelling.
Deaver’s reach extended beyond his own series when he was selected to write an official James Bond novel. “Carte Blanche” (2011) reimagined Ian Fleming’s iconic spy for the modern era, placing Bond in a contemporary setting with twenty-first-century threats. The book was praised for capturing the spirit of the character while giving Bond a sharper, updated edge. It’s my personal favorite book of his! This rare opportunity reflected the high regard in which Deaver is held, as only a select few authors have been trusted to continue the 007 legacy.
His work has also made its way to the screen, most notably with “The Bone Collector”, adapted into a 1999 film starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. The story’s dark atmosphere and compelling characters translated powerfully to cinema, introducing Deaver’s storytelling to an even wider audience. His novels’ intricate structures and tightly wound suspense make them particularly appealing to filmmakers, and adaptations have helped cement his influence in popular culture.
Beyond his bibliography, Deaver’s life is filled with interesting details that reveal his versatility. Before becoming a novelist, he worked as a journalist and even practiced law, experiences that sharpened his sense of detail and realism in his writing. A former folk singer, he has always been drawn to storytelling in different forms. His legacy lies not only in the sheer number of books he has written but in the way he consistently surprises readers, crafting endings that few see coming. Deaver remains a central figure in contemporary thriller fiction, admired for his craftsmanship, his inventive spirit, and his ability to keep readers guessing until the very last page.
