Good morning and happy Monday! Today we are looking into U.S Senator and former Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush!

Jeb Bush is a name that may ring a bell thanks to his well-known family, but his own story is full of accomplishments worth noting. Born in Midland, Texas, in 1953, Jeb is the second son of former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush. He grew up surrounded by public service but carved his own path early on. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Latin American Studies, he moved to Florida, where he built a successful career in real estate and banking before stepping into the public sphere.

Jeb Bush made a name for himself in government as Florida’s Secretary of Commerce in the late 1980s, but it was his time as Governor of Florida (1999–2007) that defined much of his public life. During those two terms, he focused heavily on education reform, pushing for statewide school grading systems, expanding school choice options, and emphasizing accountability. These efforts gained national attention and made him a prominent voice in education circles.

In addition to education, Bush was active in disaster preparedness and economic reform. He led Florida through a series of major hurricanes in the early 2000s, earning praise for his leadership during crisis. He also worked on cutting taxes, streamlining state agencies, and modernizing systems to improve efficiency. After his time as governor, he stayed engaged through nonprofit work and by founding the Foundation for Excellence in Education, which supports data-driven education policy nationwide.

Outside the public eye, Jeb is known as a devoted family man. He married Columba Garnica Gallo in 1974, and they have three children. Fluent in Spanish and deeply connected to Florida’s diverse communities, he’s always been known for bringing a personal touch to his work. Whether in office or through his ongoing education advocacy, Jeb Bush has built a career around long-term thinking and community impact.
